Loudoun Startup News – Indiegogo Focus

A very popular and quickly-growing source of donations, funds and attention for startups – or really any initiative seeking funding – is the crowdfunding service and platform at Indiegogo.com . They say “Everyone should have the opportunity to raise money. Now everyone does. People all over the world use our industry-leading platform to raise millions of dollars for all types of campaigns. No matter what you are raising money for, you can start right now with no fee or application process.”
It’s true – raising money with Indiegogo is basically free. They get 4% of all funds raised – if you don’t actually reach the goal you’ve set, they get 9% (a bit of an incentive to work hard with the platform tools). Unlike Kickstarter.com, at Indiegogo, you don’t actually HAVE to reach your goal to get money – but this difference does tend to make Kickstarter home to the bigger, more well-funded and marketed initiatives.
Loudoun initiatives are on Indiegogo – though none open now or very recently, and only 1 with really good results (402% response for the Karuba family last year).
That doesn’t mean Loudoun County entities aren’t part of the Indiegogo startup scene otherwise…..for example, KME Internet Marketing assists many startups and new businesses here in Loudoun and elsewhere, using tools like this – note for example a current campaign underway for the new Gideen.com global Indie music licensing and publishing platform.
Got a startup campaign brewing? Let us know….comments and posting on this blog will only help your Indiegogo or Kickstarter campaign!
